Magna Carta
The Magna Carta basically states that nobody is above the law not even the king and everyone can be criminally charged. -
The Stamp Act
The stamp act was an act in which the British Parliament imposed a direct tax on the American colonies. The biggest reason the colonists hated this act was because "no taxation without representation". -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was how America officially declared their independence from Great Britain. -

This was the first form of true government in the United states it wasn't a very good frame because the states had a lot more power than the central government. -

The constitution is the "Law of The Land". It is the basic laws that make everything work. -

The bill of rights is what grants citizens their natural rights such as life, liberty, freedom of speech, press, etc. -

The protection from cruel and unjust punishment. -

This amendment gives you the right to bear arms. -

The right to not shelter soldiers. -

The right to life, liberty, and property. -

The right to not be searched or seized unfairly. -
6th Amendment
The right to a speedy trial, public trial, and with a jury of your peers. -
Whiskey Rebellion
Citizens rise together against the tax on whiskeys forcing Washington to send troops to western Pennsylvania to stop the angry citizens. -
11th Amendment
Protects the states from law suits. -
Louisiana Purchase
The united states purchased the Louisiana territory and gained about 830,000 sq mi. which was a whole lot of land for the united states in 1803. -
12th Amendment
There are separate ballets for the President and Vice President. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The emancipation proclamation declared all slaves in rebel states as free because the confederacy were trying to get support from Britain but when Lincoln released this it made the war seem like a war about slaves. Britain hated the idea of slaves which made them not want to support the confederacy and this gave slaves their first chance of free life in the United States. -
Civil War
The civil war was a war between the two half of the United States. The confederates wanted to break away from the United States because they didn't like the ideas that the United States were pushing. -
13th Amendment
The abolishment of slavery. -
14th Amendment
Equal protection under the Constitution for all United States citizens. -
15th Amendment
No voting discrimination of race. -
Sherman Anti-Trust Act
This act basically stopped companies or businesses from becoming to powerful. It Authorized the government to institute proceedings against trusts in order to dissolve them. -
17th Amendment
Popular vote for United States Senate. -
16th Amendment
Income tax is legal. -

This court case declared that free speech could be limited if it presented a clear and present danger. -
The National Prohibition Act
This act prohibited the manufacturing, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages. -

This law was a temporary quota put in place to limit the immigration of Europeans to the United States -

This law allowed women to stay citizens even if they married a man who is not. -

This act was an attempt to give citizenship to Native Amercians. -

The United States joins World War 2 after the bombing of pearl habor. This war turns out to be the biggest war ever when nazi Germany tries to take over the world. This war was the first war that nuclear weapons were used. -

Upheld involuntary internment of ethnically Japanese American citizens. -
22nd Amendment
This amendment makes it so presidents can only serve for two terms. -
Brown V. Board
This case ruled that segregation was illegal and schools had to desegregate. -

The Amendment allows American citizens residing in the District of Columbia to vote for presidential electors -

This supreme court case established one man one vote meaning that every person could only vote one time per election. -

The supreme court decided that state officials violated the first amendment when they wrote a prayer to be recited by New York school children. -

This supreme court case decided that if a person can not afford a lawyer in court then they will be given a free one because it is a necessity and not a luxury. -

This amendment made it so that poll taxes are not legal. -

This act outlaws the discriminatory voting practices adopted in many southern states that took place after the civil war. -

This supreme court case established that Amish children do not have to go to school until they are 16 and they can quit school once they finish the eighth grade. -

This supreme court case legalized abortion on the basis of a woman's right to privacy. -

This amendment made it so that congress cannot get a pay raise until their next term. -
D.C v. Heller
This case ruled that the 2nd amendment protects peoples right to keep and bear arms for self defense. -
Obergefell v. Hodges
This case ruled that states must grant and recognize same-sex marriages.
