Expostion 1 Background
Sadiebelle, Turtle's mother works as a housekeeper for Mrs. Budnick. She is very picky and does not like childrean so Turtle has to live with her Aunt Minnie in Key West, Flordia away from her mother. -
Expostion 2 Setting
Turtle's Aunt minnie lives in Key West, Flordia. It is very hot and humid there all year long. The year is 1935 and it is during The Great Depression. -
Expostion 3 Characters
Turtle is the main character in this story and she definetely has her own personality. She is a very intelligant, helpful,and compassionate 12 year old girl. Beans is her cousin and even though they are the same age they are quite the opposite, he is very smart but very greedy as well. Another one of Turtle's cousins is Kermit he has a very bad heart and has to rest a lot but you can always count on Kermit to be opptimistic and funny. Buddy is the youngest cousin and he is very clumsy at times. -
Conflict
Sadiebelle, Turtle's mother works as a housekeeper for Mrs. Budnick who does not like childrean at all and she tells Sadie that her she can not live or work in her house with the child living with her. So Turtle has to live with her Aunt Minnie that she has never met before. -
Rising Action 1
Mr. Edigit, Archie's friend, takes Turtle down to Key West because he is trying to sell his new invention of hair cream and is traveling past Key West. -
Rising Action 2
Turtle hangs out with the Diaper Gang for the day and gets a tour of Key West. Along the way she mets many people such as Slow Poke, Too Bad, Jelly, Ollie, and Mami. -
Rising Action 3
Turtle outsmarts all of the Diaper Gang to get icecream for free. Once the icecream man put the icecream in the can she said oops sorry sir the nickel was at the bottom of the can I'll have to eat all of the icecream to pay you. -
Rising Action 4
Turtle gets a job working for Slow Poke. Slow Poke is a sponger and goes out everyday to the sea. He is very persistant and patient. Also he is very generous and kind to Turtle. -
Rising Action 6
Turtle is always thingking about her father and how little she knows about him. All her mother has told her about him is that he was a fisherman and he lived in Key West all his life. -
Rising Action 5
Buddy wanted Turtle to play marbles with him but instead she suggested that they should play with her paper dolls that she brought with her from New Jersey. When she took them out of her suitcase her Aunt Minnie saw them and said that they were hers. She snatched them from Turtle and took them away from her. Turtle said that they were her mother's dolls and that she had giventham to her when she was young. But, Aunt Minnie said that Sadiebelle had stolen them from her and never given them back. -
Rising Action 7
While Turtle is out at sea with Slow Poke they make a stop at the cistern to make sure there is nothing in it except for sponges. When they are on the beach they find a huge metal rod sticking out of the sand. Slow poke tells Turtle tht this was an old form of tourture used by pirates. -
Rising Action 8
Turtle and the boys stop at Mrs. Soldano's for lunch. She gives them fresh bollos (a new recipe) and delicious sandwiches. After she tells them to deliver luch to Nana Philly. -
Climax
When they deliver lunch to Nana Phiily Turtle discovers that she is in fact her Grandmother. Turtle has thought for years that both f her grandmothers were dead a long time ago for that is what her mother told her. But, in fact Nana Philly is Sadiebelle'd mother but she is very sick and is still recovering from a stroke. All of the kids in Key West are afraid of her because she hates children. Turtle tries to get closer to her by talking to her and telling her about herself. -
Falling Action 1
Ira, one of the boys in the Diaoer Gang returns from Miami. He has been there for seversl weeks because he brother got injured while sailing and the best and closest hospital was in Miami. -
Falling Action 2
Ira tells the gang about a trick that he learned in Miami called tick- tocking. He explains that it is supposed to make people think thst there is a ghost in the house. First you tie a rock on a string then you throw it ina window making sure that the people int he house don't see you or the rock. They will think that the crash is a ghost. -
Falling Action 3
The tick-tocking makes the newspapers as the mysterious ghost that is haunting everyone in Key West and it is coming for you next. Since the boys have done it to so many people everyone is prepared for when and where it will strike again. All of the civilians beleive that it is the spirit of an old sailor who was killed out at sea. -
Falling Action 4
Turtle receives a letter from her mother telling her how much she misses her. She tells Turtle that work is well and she and Archie are doing fine but missing her dearly. They can not wait to see her soon whenever soon is. Also at the bottom of the letter she adds that she is seriously considering quiting her job so that she can be an actress. -
Falling Action 5
Turltles Uncle Vernon returns fom his job at the highway very far away. Kermit, Buddy, and Beans are all very thrilled to see them because they sre never able to see their father. -
Falling Action 6
When Turtle is helping Aunt Minnie around the house she asked Turtle if she would give lunch to Nana Philly. She obeyed and went to her house but she also was very anxious to learn more about her grandother. Miss. Bea, Naa Philly's care taker leaves Turtle makes her luch and when she serves it to Nana Philly she spills it on the floor on purpose twice. -
Falling Action 7
While Turtle and all of her cousins were sleeping they suddenly hear this screming coming from downstairs. As they rush down staris they find Aunt MInnie in her nightgown running and screaming around the room. Beans finnally realizes that there is a scorpion on her back and a big one too. When they get they scorpion off they immediately call the doctor because she had gotten stung many times. -
Falling Action 8
When Turtle is at Nana Philly's house serving her lunch the old, discusting, and rotting piano suddenly collapses. She walks closer until she can get a good look a notices that there is a small tin can in the middle of all the rubbish. When she opens the tin she finds a gold coin and a treasure map leading to Black Ceasear's treasure. She tells the whole Diaper Gang and they think they should go looking for it. -
Falling Action 9
The boys and Turtle head out to look for the treasure on Slow Poke's boat. The map leads them to the island that has the cristen on it. They search everywhere for the treasure but is no where to be found. When it starts to get dark they call it quits and decide to go home and come back tomorrow. But there was just one problem along with the treasure thir boat is no where to be seen. So now they are stranded on this island with a storm approaching. -
Resolution 1
The group is finnally recued by Slow Poke and Ollie but on their way out Turtle trips on some thing and they dig it up and it turns out to be the hidden treasure. So they split the tresure six way so they each can have some. When they reach shore everyone is so releaved that they are alive because there was a huge hurricane and many people died. -
Resolution 2
Archie and Sadibelle come down to see Turtle and to make sure she is ok. The also tell her that they are now married and they will be as a family moving to Georgia in a few days. Turtle is thrilled! -
Resolution 3
On the day that Turtle and her family are supposed to move Archie flees to Cuba with Turtles' part of the treasure all to himself never being heard of again. Sadibelle is heartbroken and sobbing uncontrollably. Minnie tells tham that they can live with her instead.
