    Battle of France

    Germany made an offensive move and their army started to push back the British and French into the sea. 2 separate operations were launched which aimed to make the French lose their stronghold and for Germany to strengthen their superiority in some areas of France. The French force started to lose their grounds and eventually had to sign an agreement with Germany, causing them to lose some land to Italy and give up some areas to the north of its territories.

    Dunkirk

    After Hitler and his Nazis successfully invaded Holland and Belgium, the British and allied troops that were in Northern France had to evacuate. They successfully rescued 338,000 soldiers in a span of 9 days. This is a significant event as it represents the refusal to give up in times of crisis.
  • Battle of Britain

    After France had surrendered, Britains had to stand their ground and prepare for attacks from the Nazis. They continuously fought on their home ground, Britain, and led them to a victory. this had a major impact on the war because it was the first major campaign in WW2 that was won using airforce and air attacks.

    Operation Barbossa

    Germany started to plan his campaign against Russia whilst the Battle of Britain was ongoing and soon after France had fallen. He ignored the many warnings he was given and successfully took over most parts of Russia, however, the Red Army was able to launch a counteroffensive, which caused Hitler's army to almost fall through. He took full control and ended up winning the campaign even though it was winter at the time.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service carried out a surprise military strike at the US Naval Base in the Territory of Hawaii. They caused many injuries to the people of America so the Americans used this as a cause to fight until the end. it symbolised the American hopes and dreams to win the war.

    Fall of Singapore

    The Japanese had started to invade Malaya and the Britsh soldiers had to retreat in fear. Singapore eventually had to surrender to their force and as a result, over 130,000 British troops were humiliated for surrendering to a much smaller Japanese army. This is a significant event in the history of WW2 because it showcased a humiliating military defeat to the Japanese, who only had around 10,000 casualties and a small army.
  • Battle of Midway

    The Japanese Military had planned to lure the US army into a trap and attack them in the midway section, however, America had figured out their plan and ended up inflicting a crushing defeat on the Japanese and causing irreversible damage upon them. This event was the turning point of the pacific war and it allowed America to display skills of initiative and strategic thinking.
  • D-Day Landings

    158,000 men had landed on the shores of Normandy and started to easily break out. The resistance from the Nazis was unexpectedly weak and many places had been captured by the American, British, Canadian and allied troops. They faced some difficulties, however, they were able to take over and liberate Paris. This eventually led to Germany accepting their defeat and surrendering in the end,
  • V-E day

    This day marks the victory of Europe over Germany in the war. It commemorates the unconditional surrender of the German forces to the allies and the end of WW2 in Europe.
  • Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    On the 6th and 9th of August, 1945, the United States took their revenge and deployed 2 atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This instantaneously caused many deaths and injured lots more. The effect that this attack had on the Japanese was great and it is symbolic because the Japanese surrendered as a result.

    Victory over Japan Day celebrates the surrender of Japan to the allied forces and the end of WW2. The allied countries including Britain, America etc. claimed their victory over Japan on this day.
