The Battle of Lexingnton and Concord
700 British troops marched to the towns of Lexington and Concord to seize firearm from colonist.
Cause- Tensions between the colonies and the british were firing up
Effect- The Revoluitonary war was the effect of this first battle -
Battle of Bunker Hill
British were in the wrong position leaving the colonist with advantages. Colonist waited for the British to get in sight and fired. British didn't see it coming. They were forced to flee. The British did accomplish getting Dorchester Heights.
Cause- British wanted Dorchester Heights a very stragical position and could help win the war.
Effect- Killed many, many people. One of the most deadliest battles. This battle showed the British that the colonist were going to put up a fight. -
Battle of Moore's
The Colonist hid in the forest waiting for the British to cross the bridge and the British went confidently across the bridge thinking they could easily pass through. Their thoughts were wrong. As they crossed the bridge the were shot down.
Cause-British Loyalist were going to meet up with Recoats in North Carolina.
Effect-The British lost and 2 months later North Carolina voted for Independence and were the 1st state to vote for independence -
Battle Of Trenton
After losing a bad battle before, General George Washington needed and wanted to win. He split the troops up and attacked each side of the Hessian Army. The Hessian Army had to surrender because of the suprise attack.
Cause- Washington needed to win. After the last battle loss Washington takes his troops although bad weather and the time of the soldiers contracts about to expire he goes into the battle with high hopes.
Effect-Hessian lose and surrender and boosted confidence for the colonist. -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle was really two battle. The British won the first battle and the colonist won the second battle. The colonist winning the second battle caused the French to get envolved.
Cause- British got Fort Ticonderoga easy so they thought they would go further and win more easily
Effect- Colonist came back and won getting the French envolved. -
Battle of Guilford Courthouse
This was a very tactical victory for the British but a very important war for the colonist. The British lost many troops and Cornwallis went to Virgina the place he surrenedered.
Cause-Americans (colonist) weren't doing well. Cornwallis's troops were traveling while Greene's army stayed still.
Effect- Cornwallis abandoned his campaign and British lost a lot of troops. -
Battle of YorkTown
Washington wanted to crush Cornwallis's army. The French helped Washington with the position of the British army and was a huge help to win one of the last major battles of this war.
Cause- Washington learned the location of British and wanted to crush Cornwallis's isolated troo.
Effect-British gave white flag and war was over. -
Treaty of Paris 1783
This was a peace treaty that ended the war. Adams, Franklin, Jay, Henry and Laurens signed for the U.S. Richard Oswald signed for Britain.
Cause-The many battles that were fought and also the condition the British were in.
Effect-The Americans got their independence.
