    Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in Harlem, New York. His parents are Afeni and Billy
  • Baltimore School

    Shakur's family moves to Baltimore andTupac enrolls at the Baltimore School for the Arts, where he studies ballet and acting.
  • Poetry

    In 1989, a year after moving to California from Baltimore, Tupac began attending the poetry classes of Leila Steinberg. He honed his poetry skills from the manager of Strictly Dope group herself and started writing poems until 1991
  • Digital Underground

    Tupac joins rap group Digital Underground as a dancer, backup MC, and roadie. Months later, he makes his first rapping appearance on the single "Same Song" from Digital Underground's album, Sons of the P.
  • Tupac's First Solo Album

    Tupac releases his first solo album, 2Pacalypse Now, on Interscope Records. The album features breakout singles “Brenda’s Got a Baby” and “Trapped.”
  • Tupac's first acting debut

    Tupac makes his Hollywood acting debut in director Ernest Dickerson’s Juice.
  • More artist events

    Tupac’s sophomore album, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z..., is released and features the hit singles “Keep Ya Head Up” and “I Get Around.” Tupac stars alongside Janet Jackson in director John Singleton’s film Poetic Justice. Tupac forms the group Thug Life with his friends Big Syke, Macadoshis, Rated R, and his stepbrother Mopreme Shakur.
  • Prison

    Tupac begins serving a prison sentence for sexually assaulting a woman in a hotel room back in 1993. He serves only 9 months of his sentence before Suge Knight bails him out for $1.4 million in exchange for a 3-record deal with Death Row Records. The multi-platinum album Me Against the World is released shortly after Tupac begins his prison sentence. Following his release from prison, Tupac begins a new group called Outlaw Immortalz (aka Outlawz).
  • Death

    On September 7, Tupac is shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting following a boxing match in Las Vegas. Six days later, Tupac dies on September 13 of complications from the gunshot.
