    In Portugal on November 1st, 1775 there was a Magnitude 9 earthquake. The death toll was 20,000 people. The epicenter was about 200km away from Cape Vicente Tsunami which struck Portugal 45 minutes after the earthquake.

    In Sumatra on August 26th, 1883 there was a vei 6 volcanic eruption with a death toll of 36,000 people. Many people died as a result of there thermal blast injuries. The explosions effected the entire world because temperatures dropped as a result of ash blocking out the sun.

    In Alaska on April 1st,1946 they were hit by the Aleutian magnitude 8.1 earthquake. The death toll was 160 people. The death toll may have been low but it still caused 26 million dollars of damages which was considered a lot of money in 1946. The tsunami also took out the Scotch cap lighthouse.

    In Chile on May 23rd, 1960 there was a magnitude 9.5 earthquake which killed 61 people. It was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded. Also the tsunamis waves reached 25 meters in height.

    In Alaska on March 27th 1964 there was a magnitude 9.2 earthquake that killed 130 people. This was the largest earthquake on American soil and the second largest in recorded history. The resulting tsunami from the earthquake caused damage in Hawaii and Japan.

    On July 12th 1993 there was a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Japan killing 120 people. The earthquake had two distinct shocks, the first shock lasted for 20 seconds while the last shock lasted for 30 seconds. There was also a landslide that occurred at the base of a volcano.

    This 9.1 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia killed 230,000 people. The energy created by the earthquake is equivalent to over 1,500 times that of Hiroshima bomb. The entire earthquake rupture lasted a little over 10 minutes.

    The 8.1 magnitude earthquake in the Samoan Islands killed 200 people, and the tsunami wave hit the islands an hour after the earthquake. The earthquake was submarine and was caused by under water ruptures.

    A earthquake in Japan with a 9.1 magnitude killed 20000 people. It was the most powerful earthquake ever reported in Japan. The earthquake also caused the tsunami to soar over 133ft tall.

    In Indonesia on September 27th, 2018 there was a magnitude 7.5 earthquake that caused the deaths of over 4,400 people. The earthquake caused a major amount of soil liquefaction.The soil liquefaction caused buildings to sink because they created mudflow.
