Samuel is a slave on Master Hackler's plantation. He broke a plate on accident, so Miz Catherine threw a fork at him. In the middle of the night, Harrison woke Samuel up. Harrison took Samuel out and headed towards the cornfield. After many questions, Samuel had realized what they were doing. They were going to run away. -

Tree in a Forest near Blue Ash, Kentucky
When the sun rises, Harrison and Samuel know they must hide somewhere. Harrison leads them to a hollow tree where they stay the night. When the moon rises once again, they begin their descent again. When Samuel thinks he hears something, he freaks out and runs. Harrison and Samuel get lost and need to find where they are by using the stars. -
Ohio River
Once using the stars to find the Ohio River, Harrison and Samuel run into a strange man. He goes by the name of Riverman. He is going to help them cross the Ohio River safely and without getting caught. As they canoe down the river, they run into another slave woman, Hetty Scott. As a result to her disobeying they must leave her to be found by guards and finish their own journey. -
Widow Taylor
The River Man takes them to Widow Taylor's house. They stay in her cellar overnight, where there is food. There are crates of food that Samuel wants to eat also, and Harrison gives him a lecture about stealing. The next morning, she goes down to the cellar. They pay her gold coins, and she takes them in her cart to Reverend Pry and Mr.Keepheart's church. -
Church
Samuel and Hariison get to the church, they meet Reverend Pry and Mr.Keepheart. They start writing about Harrison and Samuel's lives as slaves, which makes Harrison suspicious. After they leave, Harrison throws the papers out of the window into the rain. The next morning Harrison and Samuel are woken up by Miz Kettle. She first dresses Samuel as a girl and gives Harrison an outfit too. Once she dresses them up, she directs them to Ham and Eggs. She gives them fish to help disguise them. -
Ham, Eggs, and Miz Kettle
On their way to Ham and Eggs, somebody stops them and takes their fish. They continued on to Ham and Eggs where they then started to
follow them to Green Murdock's house. Once at his house, Green Murdock offers them food and a fortune. Unforunately, Harrison's was not fortunate! He got the ace of spades. This means something bad will happen. -
Negro Hollow
The next morning, Harrison comes down with a fever. Green Murdock freaks out and takes them in his cart. Harrison could hardly stand and they had to pick him up into the cart. Green Murdock takes them to Negro Hollow. Samuel has to run and get help for Harrison, and he eventually gets there himself. -
8-12 Sep 1859
Harrison and Samuel stay in August and Belle Henry's home while Harrison tries to recover. Unfortunately, his recovering takes one week. -
Harrison is better
When Harrison gets better, they board the first train so they can begin their journey again. They say thank you and goodbye to August and Belle Henry and leave. -
Train
When they board the train, they meet another runaway slave that shows them locks of his family's hair. They then continue their journey with Ordee Lee tagging along. -
Dock
When they get in a canoe to ride along the waters to Canada, they get caught and Ordee Lee tries to run. They found a weakness in the capturer and pretend they have a certificate. The man feels bad and pretends with them. They get to go to Canada!
future: Ordee Lee becomes a blacksmith and changes his name to Isaiah Moses, Harrison gets his own pond filled with fish, Lilly dies six years later, there is a reunion with Samuel and his mom
