  • Spanish defenses against British

    The spanish built Castillo San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida. It was based off the classic European Four-Bastioned fortresses. It was surrounded by a trench flooded with water. The British lacked the artillery to take them down.

    The Americans and French began to dig trenches to to fight off the British troops by using the trenches as cover and shelters. These trenches ranged up to 2,000 yards long.

    A second system of coastal defenses were created (replacing earlier ones) that served as multi storey combat platforms with guns in masonary casements. Detached earthworks were addedas ground deffenses. this served as a crucial part for the deffenses.

    Trenchs were used in world war one becaus epeople thought that it seemed to be the easiest battle strategie and surprisingly effective, but the biggest problem was they were nto thinking about the well being of men whne they decided to use this tactic therefore making it miserable for the men who had to spend their nights in the trenches.
