No Man's Land
We sprung up into the bullets flying above us and many of us dropped immediately. A few men froze and most ran into what was almost certainly their end just waiting to be hit by the constant shelling or bullets that you could feel flying by your face inches away.

In The Trenches
Days feel like months, terrifying, intense. I lay burying myself in into the ground inside the trench looking at the dead bodies of my fellow soldiers who died inches from the safety of the trench. A shell hits abruptly interrupting the slight moment of peace I had followed by 3 more explosions this time even closer. I hear the explosions followed by screams and the sound of earth falling back down to the ground.

Happy Birthday
Today, December 13, 1915, I turn 21. I don't bother to tell the other soldiers because I don't want special recognition or a celebration. Today for my birthday we have had no shelling so far, things have been fairly peaceful for once but I know it will not last. All I have for company, and all I need, is this bottle of whiskey we scavenged from the town and to pray that this quiet lasts through the night.

Battle
Shelling woke me very suddenly from my anxious sleep, and it was too close. I heard the gatling guns begin fire and I knew that meant their men were heading our way, I went to arm up when the shell hit the trench directly. The blow left only pieces of the three men manning the gatling gun at their station and the gun was nowhere to be seen.... I lay down and become motionless as the enemies begin jumping the trench

Final
This will most likely be my last entry. My friends surrounding me have not moved for 4 days and I think it safe to assume they were not faking their deaths as I was. I know this stretch of trench there is more men and I know more men must be coming but I'm lost and alone with no rations or food and I don't even know which direction the enemy line is and my leg is badly injured. I will continue to fight and continue to serve.
