In Topeka Kansas a Supreme court decision was made on the Brown's case. This supreme court decision led to the Brown ruling that began a long struggle to desegregate schools everywhere. -

This year long bus boycott was sparked by the arrest of Rosa Parks. In Montgomery, Alabama This peaceful boycott was led by Martin Luther King Jr. This long boycott succeeded in making bus segregation unconstitutional. -
Little Rock Nine
In Little Rock Arkansas 9 students, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Ernest Green, Thelma Mothershed, Melba Patillo, Gloria Ray, Terrence Roberts, Jefferson Thomas, and Carlotta Walls, attended a high school. This was hard for the Little Rock Nine students because there were mobs at school that didn't like having African Americans as students. This led to schools everywhere being desegregated. -
Greeensboro Sit-in
In 1960 5 college students committed civil disobedience in a local restaraunt. African Americans could not sit in the restaraunt, but they could order in the counter. As a result of this courageous act, many more sit ins broke out across the county to protest racial acts. -
Freedom Riders
A group of african americans and white core members committed civil disobedience as they boarded a bus. They left from Washington D.C. to Alabama when they got of the bus they were beaten down by white people. Pictures were broadcated all over the county. As a result the Interstate commerce commission took steps to enforce the supreme court ruling that banned segregation on interstate buses. -
March on Washington
In Washington D.C Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led a nonviolent march. This nonviolent protest leaded to all blacks being treated equal like whites. -
King's Assasination
In Memphis, Tennessee while Martin Luther King jr. was standing on the balcony of his hotel he was shot by James Earl Ray. This was a violent assasination. This led to mourning and sadness as a civil rights leader was killed.
