  • The Steam-Powered Car

    The Steam-Powered Car
    Nicholas-Joseph Cugnot constructed the first known automobile. It was a steel tricycle with a massive boiler at the front which drove mid-body mounted pistons which then turned the wheel. It was large enough to carry 4 people and could run for 20 albeit at a slow pace.
  • Hot Air Balloons

    Hot Air Balloons
    Hot Air Balloons were created on November 21st,1783 in Paris. Hot Air Balloons work because of hot air rises. People figured out that heating the air inside of the balloon will allow the balloon to rise. Hot Air Balloons were used in several wars. They were used in the French Revolution and other wars. They were used for a few things. First of all, they were used as military signaling and they used them to spy on things.
  • Steamboats

    Steamboats
    Steam Boats and Paddle Wheelers played a significant role in the history of Canada. First of all, there was a Paddle Wheeler called the Swiftsure moved troops on St Lawrence during the War of 1812. Steamboats were used very frequently to export things out of Canada or the US. Pretty much the same thing that Canals do. After the invention of steamboats, Canals became more popular.
  • The First Ambulance

    The First Ambulance
    The first ambulance was invented in 1792 by Napoleon's personal doctor, Dominique Jean Larrey. It was first used by the French Army unit to carry men out of the battlefield. The French Army Unit had 12 ambulances that helped the wounded men. The ambulances looked like a wheel barrel with padding and a cover over the top to prevent the soldiers to be exposed to the weather.
  • The Bicycle

    The Bicycle
    At the time, there were steamboats and trains for longer travel. However, there weren't many forms of short transportation. This was when they made the first bicycle. It was made out of wood and had no pedals so it was propelled by walking and then riding. However, it was around 1880 in which they had chain-driven bicycles. On June 12th, 1817 the Germans had done the first reported ride. The man covered 13 km in less than an hour.
  • The Canal

    Canals are an artificial waterway constructed to allow the passage of boats or ships inland or to convey water for irrigation. Canals were used a lot back then to import and export goods from other countries. The first canal in Canada is a Welland canal that opened in 1829 between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. It allowed ships to skirt the nearly impassable rapids on the St. Lawrence River at Montreal,
  • The Railway Age

    The Railway Age is a time in history, in which railways became extremely popular as a form of transportation. The first railway was built in Toronto by a man named James Good. People thought that railways were a very convenient form of transportation because it is least affected by weather. It can handle conditions like rain, fog etc.
  • The Gasoline-Powered Car

    The Gasoline-Powered Car
    The first production internal-combustion motor vehicle was created in 1885. Although there were cars made before this, none of those were successful enough to go into full production. This car was a tricycle powered by a single-piston internal combustion engine was the first car to complete a long-distance voyage without breaking down.
  • The Motorcycle

    The first commercial design of the motorcycle was a three-wheel design called the Butler Petrol Cycle. This was how they were going to make the motorcycles until the late 1880's when dozens of designs emerged. The first series production motorcycle was in 1894 and it was called Hildebrand & Wolfmüller. There were only a few hundred examples of this motorcycle, but it was very popular and was a good start to the design of motorcycles.
  • Zeppelin

    Zeppelin
    The Zeppelin; a large dirigible balloon consisting of a long, cylindrical, covered framework containing compartments or cells filled with gas, and of various structures for holding the engines, passengers, etc. The first test of the Zeppelin was on July 2nd, 1900. They tested it at a lake called Lake Constance. After the testing, Germany used several zeppelins in World War 1 because they would achieve higher altitudes than airplanes so they would use them for high altitude bombing purposes.
  • The First Airplane & The Wright Brothers

    The First Airplane & The Wright Brothers
    Near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first successful flight. They had created a gasoline-powered, propeller-driven biplane, that stayed in the air for around 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. After a few years, the brothers were in Dayton. They had designed the first internal combustion engine and tested it However, it was unsuccessful. They repaired the ship and tested it again on December 17th and it stayed in the air for 59 seconds and covered 852 feet.
  • First Mass-Produced Personal Transportation Vehicle

    First Mass-Produced Personal Transportation Vehicle
    The Ford T Model was the first mass-produced personal transportation vehicle. This was because it was built from modular parts and was the first car to be built on a modern production line. This made production very efficient which lowered the price of the car which made it very appealing to customers
  • The First Traffic Signal

    Traffic Signals are used to direct traffic. There is a green light which means go, the yellow light which means stop safely or proceed with caution and finally the red light means stop. The first traffic signal was installed August 5th on East 105th Street in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • The First Rocket

    The First Rocket
    The first liquid-fueled rocket was invented in 1926 by a man named Robert Goddard in Auburn, Massachusetts. He successfully launched the rocket on March 16th, 1926. It was the beginning of the new rocket era.
