Common Sense was first written in the year 1776. The author of Common Sense is Thomas Paine. The purpose of the pamphelt is to inspire colonists of the thirteen to be part of the rebellion against the British. The success of the pamphlet is that it was widely read by the people of the colonies. -
Declaration of Independence
The purpose of the Declaration of Independence is to separate from Britain. The preamble is an iroduction of an offical document. The first section of the document explains the rights of all people. The second section of the document explains how the King violates the principles of the goverment. The third section of the document is the conclusion. The impact of the document is that they would let Britain know that America would be having their own goverment and would separate from Britain. -
Retreat From New York
The fighting shifted to New England to the Middle colonies. Nathan Hale is an American spy who stole British Battle plans and was hanged. The moral for Washington and his men was low. The two out comes of the Battle of Long Island in 1776 is that the British drove Washington's troops out of New York. Washington had to abandon New York City. -
Crossing the Delaware 1776
They went to the Trenton and the river they went was the Delaware River. The Hessians are at Trenton, they are mercenaries who are payed soliders to fight for one's country. The outcome is that the Americans won the battle of Trenton. The Americans felt good about themselves afterwards. -

Valley Forge Winter 1777-1778
Valley Forge is in Pennsylvania. The condition for the Americans was harsh and unforgiving. The British spent a comfortable winter in Philedalphia. The result of the winter at Valley Forge was that the Americans survived the winter and were better trained too when they left. -
Help from Overseas 1778
The French were wanting to get revenge when the Americans weakened the British. France was the first nation to make an alliance with the Americans. Baron Friedrich von Steuben is a German who help the Americans. His job was to train the undisciplined and untrained soliders to become a real army. -

The two cities Gen.Cornwallis captured was Charleston and Savannha South Carolina. Guerrilla tactics are tactics that invovle a group of soliders that do hit and run attacks. Francis Marion is a military solider who uses guerilla tactics also known as "Swamp Fox". The Southern Loyalists were in the backcountry because they were gathering more Southern Loyalists to fight the Partiots. -
Defending the Frontier
George Rogers Clark was sent to defend teh frontier. The Americans did have success by capturing multiple British forts. The result of defending the frontier was that the Americans remain on the frontier and strenghthen their claim on the Ohio Valley area. -
Spain Joins the Fight 1779-1781
The lands Spain controls in America was most of the Land west of the Mississippi. Spain wanted Florida back from the British if they helped the Americans. The Spanish would provide was money and munitions. Spain eventually became America's sencond official
