Train timeline

  • 1854, First Train line in Australia

    in 1854 a public meeting was called and the first-ever train line was built in Melbourne. this line goes from flinders street to port Melbourne.
  • 1872, Essondon line

    In 1872 the Essendon line was extended to Broad Meadows allowing for more pedestrians to be transported.
  • 1877, A Regional Line was built

    in 1877 a regional line was built from Oakleigh to Taken, there was a gap from Oakleigh to the city.
  • 1880, Massive increase in lines

    Many more lines were built and were stated the most lines built in decades.
  • 1888, We didn't forget about our pals in the North-east

    Many more lines were built on the Northeast side, connecting the rest of Melbourne with it.
  • 1900, Did someone say shuttle train?

    A shuttle train between Camberwell and Deepdene formed as part of the inner circle which was built a few years before when the Northeast was connected.
  • 1927, It was a good run at least.

    The Camberwell line to Deepene line shut down after the massive first world war.
  • 1954, Our fan favourite, Billy!!

    After the closing of the Gembrook line, Puffing Billy sprouted up from the train yards and took children on a train adventure.
