The Olympics Start in Olypmia

The Olympics make the Greeks so memorable as they allowed for athletes to cross through their lands even if their cities were rivals or were waring. This was a memorable thing about the Greeks because of how they recognized each other as equals and didn't hold war or aggression against those not part of it as the athletes were.

Thales of Miles Successfully Predicts a Solar Eclipse

585 BCE

Thales of Miles was a scientist from Greece and was able to successfully predict a solar eclipse. This is memorable because he was able to do so much in the field of science allowing others in Greece to build off of his ideas and further their knowledge of science.

The Tyrant Cleisthenes is Appointed

508 BCE

Cleisthenes was appointed to the position of tyrant to help prevent a civil war from breaking out amongst the Athenians. He took a radical step and allowed certain people to begin voting on public matters. This is memorable because it is one of the first democracy and would help influence the modern world and its governments.

The Persian War Begins

490 BCE

The Persian war begins in the city of Marathon. This makes the Greeks memorable as it is a time when the city-states of Greece come together to defeat an enemy and begin to work together. Also Pheidippides the man who runs the first Marathon runs asking the Spartans for aid and informing Athens of bad news and of victory. This is memorable as Marathons are run across the world today.

The Persian War Ends With a Greek Victory

479 BCE

The Spartans fight in a decisive battle in central Greece and defeat Persian forces. The Persian abandon the idea of conquering Greece. This is memorable as the Greeks were small nations and defeated a global superpower of the time.

Socrates is Born

469 BCE

Socrates was a famous Greek philosopher who used the Socratic method unchanging rules of ethics. He also went on to teach Plato and Aristotle. This is memorable as this line of teachers went on to help teacher Alexander the Great who would go on to conquer much of the known world.

The Peloponnesian Begins in Greece

431 BCE

The Peloponnesian war was a major conflict between Spartan and its allies and Athens and its allies. This is memorable because the two largest powers in Greece fought against each other after working together in the Persian War.

Greece is Conquered by Macedon

338 BCE

Greece is conquered by Philip the king of Macedon. This is memorable as it is the first time Greece was unified under one nation and was no longer a collection of independent city-states. This is would lead to Alexander the Great conquering much of the known world.

Persia Falls to Alexander the Great

330 BCE

Alexander the Great conquers the Persian capital Persepolis and the king of Persia fled and was murdered. This is memorable because Persia a once-great empire and superpower of the world falls to Alexander.

Alexander the Great Invades India

327 BCE

Alexander the Great crosses into modern-day India and much of his men are rich and old. This memorable as it spread the idea that the Greeks had. It was also were much of Alexander's troops turned around and went home to Macedon with their riches.
