Malcolm Scott Carpenter
Malcolm Scott Carpenter was an American naval officer and aviator, test pilot, aeronautical engineer, astronaut, and aquanaut. He was one of the Mercury Seven astronauts selected for NASA's Project Mercury in April 1959. -
Boris Borisovich Yegorov
Yegorov came from a medical background, with his father a famous heart surgeon, and his mother an ophthalmologist. He also chose medicine as a career and graduated from the "First Moscow Medical Institute" in 1961. During his studies, he came into contact with Yuri Gagarin's training and became interested in space medicine. He was the first doctor to go in space. -
Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin
Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was a Soviet Air Force pilot and cosmonaut who became the first human to journey into outer space. He made a huge achievement in the Space Race. His capsule Vostok 1 completed one orbit of Earth on April 12, 1961. Gagarin became an international celebrity and was awarded many medals and titles, including Hero of the Soviet Union, his nation's highest honour. -
Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr
In 1961 Alan Bartlett Shepard Jr. became the first American to travel into space In 1971 he walked on the Moon. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Shepard saw action with the surface navy during World War II. -
John Herschel Glenn Jr
John Herschel Glenn Jr was the first American to orbit the Earth, circling it three times in 1962. Before joining NASA, Glenn was a distinguished fighter pilot in World War II, China and Korea. He shot down three MiG-15s, was awarded six Distinguished Flying Crosses, and eighteen Air Medals. -
Buzz Aldrin
Buzz Aldrin was an American engineer and a former astronaut and fighter pilot. Aldrin made three spacewalks as pilot of the 1966 Gemini 12 mission, and as the Apollo Lunar Module pilot on the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. He and mission commander Neil Armstrong were the first two humans to land on the Moon. -
Guion Stewart Bluford Jr
Grissom was the second American to fly in space, and the first member of the NASA Astronaut Corps to fly in space twice. In addition, Grissom was a World War II and Korean War veteran, U.S. Air Force test pilot, and a mechanical engineer. -

Michael Collins was an American former astronaut who flew the Apollo 11 Command Module Columbia around the Moon while his crew mates, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, made the first crewed landing on the surface. -

Mae Carol Jemison
Mae Carol Jemison was an American engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut. She became the first black woman to travel in space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. -
