    On March 6th 1820 the Missouri Compromise was signed. Congress tried to keep balance in power between slave & free states,by doing so they admitted both Maine & Missouri. Thomas Jefferson saw this as a last warning before danger immersed. This was the first event that led to the Civil War.

    In 1848 The Mexican War came to an end, as a result new land was acquired by The United States. The dispute at hand that came along with this was how would the territory be represented? This is the 2nd event that led to the Civil War.

    On January 29th 1850 Henry Clay introduced many resolutions to the topic of slavery at hand. One of them being the Fugitive Slave Act. This act declared that any federal official who failed to arrest a runaway slave would be held to pay a fine. This sparked a great rise in abolitionist & underground railroad activity. This was the 3rd even that led to the Civil War.

    Harriet Beecher Stowe releases Uncle Tom's Cabin on March 20th 1852, this impacted the way Northern Americans viewed the horrors of slavery. Becoming a best seller,this book fueled the fire abolitionists had sparked. This was the 4th event that led to the Civil War.

    On May 2nd 1856 John Brown led a small group of anti-slavery supporters on an attack on pro-slavery voters. This led to people being killed due to their political views & the power they had to influence the future of the nation by voting. This was the 5th even that led to the Civil War.

    On May 21,1856 Preston Brooks violently beats Senator Charles Sumnerafter he gave a speech which Spoke about the horrors that occured in Kansas,the speech angered many pro-slavery members of the Senate. By attacking Sumner, Preston presented the ideal that slavery could not always be dealt with in a peaceful, civil matter. This is the 6th event that led to The Civil War.

    On March 6th 1857 the supreme court ruled that Dred Scott could not have a case because he was property himself and could not testify. Although his owner traveled and kept him as a slave in a free state, slaves were still considered property regardless of the circumstances. This decision made the efforts of Abolitionists increase in the North. This was the 7th event that led to The Civil War.
  • John Brown's Raid

    John Brown's Raid
    On October 16th 1859 John Brown led 17 men on a raid on Harper's Ferry Virginia. He hoped to start a slave uprising using the captured weapons he acquired. Shortly after taking a control over some buildings he and his men became surrounded by General Robert E. Lee. This caused many people of the South to view slaves as mere animals who should be put down. This is the 8th event that led to The Civil War.

    The South viewed the outcome of The Election of 1860 as a last straw. The Southern States warned that if Lincoln was elected they would secede. They saw Lincoln's views on slavery as unjust. Lincoln was inaugurated on March 4th 1861.This was the (th event that led to The Civil War.

    On December 20th 1860 South Carolina becomes the first state to secede regardless of what President Buchanan wishes. This caused the south to change their view of keeping the nation together. In February 1861 the Confederate States of America was founded. A month later all mayhem went loose. This was the last event that led to the Civil War.
