In the Great war, the Ottoman Empire was defeated.Germany was in great power. It ended up by Germany signing an armistice with the Allies.

Hussein -McMahon Correspondence

Hussein and McMahon disagreed whether Palestine had the right to gain independence in the territory. Britian intiates support for Arab independence from the Ottoman Empire.

Balfour Declaration

Jan 1, 1917

Britian supports the Jewish people in gaining a national home in Palestine. This being stated,nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine.

British mandate for Palestine

Jul 24, 1922

Palestine was divided into 2 parts, one controlled by Britian and the other half by France. The articles of the mandate included the requirement of establishing a Jewish national home

WW2 and the Holocaust

Sep 1, 1939

A long bloody war that lasted for six years. Started first with Germany invading Poland. Hitler comes in power but then commits suicide during the war. Ends with the US bombing Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan.

Jordan's Independence

May 25, 1946

Achieved independence from Britain. Named Transjordan from the British Mandate of Palestine in 1922, Jordan in 1946 was under its own control, while the British command over Jordan ceased.

Al Nakba

May 15, 1948

Known as the "The Day of the Catastrophe". Many Palestinian refugees fled or were expelled from Palestine and many villages were destroyed. It is also known as Israel's Independence Day.

Suez Canal

Jamal Abdul Nasser nationalized the Suez Canal which lead to Suez crisis. It led to military actions by France, Britain and Israel. The Suez Canal was a great shipping route.

Al Naksah "Six Day War"

Jun 5, 1967

Israel launches a preemptive strike and conquers the Sinai, Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. 600,000 Palestinian refugees. Resolution 242 calls for Israeli withdrawal and estalishes "land for peace" principle.

Gulf war

May 31, 1991

Begins in response to Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990. This was a war waged by a UN authorized Coalition force from 34 nations led by the United States against Iraq.
