The FIrst Americans
A long time ago, a lot of the water on Earth was frozen and the sea level dropped many feet. Because of this, the Bering Sea was once dry land. People used this "land bride" to migrate to America from north-eastern-Asia.This started about 18,000 years ago. These were the first people of North America. -

The Colonies
The American Colonies began in the late 1400s. Europeans from Spain, France, the Netherlands, and other countries, began traveling to the Americas. The colonies began forming in the late 1500s. Sometimes colonists befriended the Native Americans, but they usually fought. -
The Slave Trade
The slave trade began in 1619. Enslaved Africans were brought to North America. Many others went to South America and the West Indies. Traders exchanged English products for slaves. Most Africans faced a very hard life. Most slaves worked in the Southern Colonies on plantations. Having slaves ended up causing a war. -
The Declaration of Independence
Many men from the eastern states signed the Declaration. The Declaration declared that "all men are created equal" and have the right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". It did not include rights for women or slaves, but it was still a great step towards equality. -
Revolutionary War
The Revolutionary War was between North America and Great Britain. At first, the British seemed unbeatable. But in 1778 the French formed an alliance with the Americans. In 1781 the Americans, under Gereral George Wahington's command, and their French allies defeated the main British army. The Americans won the War.
