Executive order 9981
Executive Order 9981 was passed by president Truman, it prohibited racial discrimination in the armed forces of the U.S and would help bring an end to all segregation in the armed forces. -
Brown vs Topeka Board of Education
This Supreme Court case brought and end to segregation in all schools across the nation, the Supreme Court Judges overruled the "Seperate but Equal" term used to justify segregation in the past for public spaces and deemed it unconstitutional. -
Murder of Emmett Till
Emmett Till was an African American assassinated after flirting with a white women at a gracery store. He would later be kidnapped by two white men , one the husband of the white women form the store, he was beaten to death, mutalated and shot in the head and tossed into the river. He would have an open casket funeral so people could see the terrible things that white supremacy brought and why it needed to end. -
Loving vs Virginia
Mildred Jeter (black) and Richatd Loving (white) were a married couple who took their case all the way to the Supreme Court after being arrested in Virginia for getting married in the district of Columbia and returning to Viginia. The Supreme Court ruled the restriction of interracial marriages unconstitutional and would bring an end to this prohibition. -
Little Rock Crisis
After the Supreme Court Ruled segregation in school unconstitutional 9 African American students were chosen to enroll Central High school in Little Rock Arkansas. When the students first attended they were prevented entrance to the School by the Arkansas National Guard under the orders of Governor Orval Faubus. President Einsenhower would then send in the 101 airborne division to protect the little rock nine and truly put an end to segregation in the public school system. -
Greensboro NC Sit Ins
The Greensboro sit ins were peace , non violent movements seeking quality everywhere for blacks, people would walk I in and sit in the white people chairs untill they were arrested or kicked out by force without ever fighting back. The North Carolina sit ins were among the most famous giving the country a feelinf that blacks mattered and we're ready take what was rightfully theirs. -
March on Washington
The March on Washington is one of the greatest political rallies in all of of U.S history. It was a call for equal rights politically and socially among all African Americans. This is also the location and time where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous historic " I have a Dream" speech forever going down in history. -
16th Street Bombing
What seemed like a regular church Sunday would result in a tragic ending. Four members from the KKK planted 15 sticks of dynamite in the steps of an African Baptist church with a timer. The explosion would kill Four African girls and wound another 22. The crime would raise African American callings for change and an end to such terrible hate crimes on humanity. -
MLK Assassinated
The fall of 1968 King traveled to Memphis Tennessee to support and talk for a labor strike who were demanding equal pay for African Americans. When at the hotel Martin was staying at he was standing on the balcony when he was struck by a snipers bullet through the cheek at 6:01pm. He would later die within the hour at the hospital. The killer was a James Earl Ray who would be captured after two months of evading the law and sentenced to 99 years of prison. King now has a holiday in his memory.
