Tom's friend Jem dies when a chimney collapses on him. This is a big thing for Tom as they were going to escape to freedom together. -

Tom is adopted by Rob and his father. This makes him happy as Rob was good company for him. -

This was a special event for Tom as it was his first Christmas with family again. -
