In his book, Dennett explains how we can't undo the issues stemming from the fact that Darwin's idea that evolution is a simple algorithm and not some grand design created by an omnipotent designer, regardless if this idea is overturned. His book went on to become a finalist for the '95 National Book Award and the '96 Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction.

Daniel Dennett is considered to be one of the "Four Horsemen" when it comes to the new understanding of philosophy as it pertains to science. This nickname comes from a 2007 debate when he and the other three horsemen discussed their criticism of religion and advocated for critical thinking. The other members of the "Four Horsemen" include Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Sam Harris.
