Scout and Jem start school
Scout starts school for the first time, entering the first grade, and meets her new teacher Miss Caroline. Jem returns to school in the fifth grade. -
Atticus tells the kids to stop playin their game
Scout does not like how jem and dill decide to find "a way around" atticus saying that they cannot play the boo radley game. She is just know realizing that people will lie and stretch the truth to benefit themselves. Finding this out makes Scout very uneasy. -
Miss Caroline is frustrated with Scout
Miss Caroline puts the alphabet on the board, and learns that Scout already knows how to read. Miss Caroline is not pleased about this, and Miss Caroline assumes that Atticus has taught her to read and that causes problems with her because Atticus isn’t a real teacher. Jem believes that Miss Caroline is the center of the rebuild of the new "dewey decimal system. -
