The voyage of the Mayflower
On this date, a group of 102 pilgrims sailed from England to America on the ship the Mayflower. They wanted religious and political freedom, so they left England. This difficult journey coninued 65 days. -
Land in sight
The pilgrims saw land in the distance, and they were very excited. Some pilgrims explored the area, they saw a good place and they deciced to build a village. The called it Plymouth.
45 people died from the extreme temperatures in the first winter. -
New World
The pilgrims met a Native American and they taught the pilgrims how to grow corn, beans and pumpkins, so their life became better.
By he 1750s, the British had 13 colonies. -
Independence from Great Britain
On this day the colonies declared independece from Great Britain. The leaders also published the Declaration of Indepence.
George Washington fought many long, difficult battles. They defeated the British and signed the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
The new nation was called United States of America (USA). -
Expansion and the Civil War
Napoleon offered to sell the land to the United States for $15 million. The president accepted and signed the Louisiana Purchase Agreement. By 1848 the country extended from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. -

The people in the north lived in towns, but in the south, they lived on plantations and own slaves.
Abraham Lincoln was the President of the USA. He wanted to end slavery. -
1864
The war could continue for long because the Confederates were losing. -
1865
It was the end of the war. More than 600,000 died. The slaves were free and the country became one nation. -
