  • Billy Bishop +2

    Billy Bishop +2
Billy Bishop was one of the first pilots in the Canadian air force, which was made in August 1914. Thanks to many pilots wanting to join, Almost a quarter of British flyers were Canadian. He became famous from his unique exploits, which also made him a controversial figure. I believe men like him represent Canada, as he gave up his normal life to fly planes for the war. In 1939, an airport in Toronto was named in his honour, which allows his name to still be talked about to this day.
  • Jeremiah Jones -1

    Jeremiah Jones -1
Jeremiah Jones was one of 16 black soldiers who were assigned to the Royal Canadian Regiment. On April 9th, 1917, he saved his unit from an enemy machine gun, which saved countless people. The reason I believe this evidence shows how Canada declined over this period of time. Jeremiah made use of his situation, but that doesn't change how his situation was. Many soldiers were racist towards him and the 15 other black soldiers, which isn't how we should treat any solider.
  • "For What?" +1

    "For What?" +1
"For What?" Is a painting by Frederick Varley, who was a war artist. This painting is of what looks like rubble, from the war. This painting asks the viewer if the pain of war is worth it, or if we shouldn't continue in this war. War artists like him ask viewers these questions to educate them, and make them think from different perspectives in WW1. These artists are still popular today because of their impact on how we look at WW1, which wouldd be much different without them.

    Frederick Ogilvie Loft -2
Frederick was a Mohawk fromt the Six Nations of the Grand River, and he served in the first world war. He founded the League of Indians in 1919, which was meant to bring more rights to his people. One in three soldiers were of Indigenous background, which made them hard to ignore. The department of Indian affairs was trying to stop them from getting more rights, as after the war they could no longer vote. Some many horrible things happen to these people, and none of it for a good reason.

Frederick Banting was an average student throughout his life, until him and his friend made a huge discovery. The two of them discovered insulin, which changed many people's lives. This allowed many people to have an easier life, and this made the two of them unforgettable. This evidence shows how this time was a huge change for everyone, and how many people are responsible for that. These two men accidently discovered something that changed thousands of lives.

Rosenfeld was a wolrd-class athlete in the 1920s, when woman were first introduced into sports. Women athletes were popping up much more during this time, as many of the athletes went to war, leaving space for the woman to try sports. Rosenfeld won the silver medal in the 1928 summer Olympics , which was the first time women were allowed to compete in the Olympics. She represents how this time was for women, as they had more freedom while the men were away.
  • Coal Miners and Factory Workers -2

Coal Miners and Factory Workers -2
Many people lost their lives working in the mines or factorys in the 1920s. The coal prices dropped quite a bit during these times, which forced workers to work harder than normal. A man named WIlliam Davis was shot during the coal miners strike in 1925, which led to him becoming an important name for those in these dangerous jobs. Many people used his story to show what's wrong with these jobs, as many people were over-worked in a unsafe workplace.

    Chuck Lee -2
Chuck came to Canada in 1906, and he stayed here for the rest of his life. He went back to China in 1926 to get married, and came back to Canada without his wife because of Canadain immigration laws. He later went to engineering school, but couldn't get a job due to his background. He faced a lot of racism during his life, getting made fun during his life. This shows how Canada declined during this time, as they assumed every person from China was on the enemy side, which ruined many lives.

    Emily Murphy +2
Emily was an activist during 1920s, and fought for women's rights. After she was fired from her job, she started an activist group called the famous five. Her and four other female activists were in the group, and they would mostly challenge unfair laws towards women. People like her led to the first female senator in 1930, whose name was Cairine Wilson. The famous five are exactly the kind of people who represent this time, as they took a bad situation and turned it into something meaningful.
