Iran- Contra Affair
In an attempt to improve Iran-American relations, Israel would d ship weapons to a moderate, politically influential group of Iranians opposed to Ayatollah Khomeni; the U.S. would reimburse Israel with those weapons and receive payment from Israel. The current president at the time Ronald Reagan stated in 1986 that transactions had occurred but the US did not trade arms for hostages. In March of 1987 he admitted that the transaction did not begin as trading arms for hostages but ended that way. -
