in an attempt to desegregate high schools nine black children attempted to get into an all a white school and met a lot of resistance. to avoid fighting they called the nine teens and told them not to come to school, but one little girl didnt have any phone so she came to school the next day and people didnt like that -
freedom riders
To call for a change and to defy Jim Crows laws several people both black and white rode a bus all over the country. when people decided to take action against this they beat the freedom riders close to death and threw a bomb in one of the busses. -

due to his rising popularity and successes certain groups who opposed desegregation shot martin luther king Jr at exactly 6:01 p.m at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. He was shot through the neck and the cheek. Howoever he wasn't pronounced dead until 7:05 p.m. -
montgomery bus boycott
The boycott started when a young black woman named Rosa Parks was arrested for not moving on the bus for him to sit down. This sparked a movement were people refused to ride busses. The boycott officially ended in 1956
