    Mussolini took his National Fascist Party to Rome to try to seize power. After this, Mussolini was made prime minister so that he could make all of Italy fascist.

    Stalin becomes Dictator of USSR
    After the Soviet leader Lenin died, Stalin took over Russia and became dictator. He did this by "outmaneuvering" his rivals.

    Hitler Writes Mein Kampf
    Hitler wrote his book, Mein Kampf while he was in prison. It carried all of his ideas and most importantly, his blueprint/plan.

    After Hindenburg met with Hitler, he acquiesced the appointment of Hitler as chancellor.

    Night of the Long Knives
    This was a purge in Germany led by Hitler. He did this because he thought the SA (Sturmabteilung) paramilitary was getting to strong. He sent out his elite SS (Schutzstaffel) to kill them, along with other opponents of Hitler. It was all for more power.

    The Nuremberg Laws were part of racist and anti-semitic beliefs. They made it to where only "pure" Germans could be a German citizen.

    The Great Purge was a campaign carried out by Joseph Stalin to consolidate power over the Communist Party. It also killed any influence of the previous ruler, Leon Trotsky. During the purge, there were many prisoners taken to gulags, forced to do intensive labor. Many died in these gulags.

    The Rape of Nanking can only be described as mass murder, rape and looting of Chinese civilians by Japanese soldiers. It was to break the morale of the Chinese resistance. It ended in 1938.

    Kristallnacht (night of broken glass) was a massive wave of outright violence against Jewish Germans. It was carried out by the SA and the SS. Jewish people along with Jewish businesses and places of worship were attacked as well.

    The Nazis invade Poland for one real reason, they just want more land. It was a surprise attack. They thought the poles inferior, therefore this attack is "needed"

    Japan wanted to strike America to surprise them and essentially defeat America's navy before they were even in the war. Pearl Harbor was the target. It actually had the opposite effect. America was riled up and wanted to get back at Japan.
