Battle of Dunkirk
The Battle of Dunkirk was fought around the French coast line. Dunkirk was next to the English channel. This made it easy when British boats came into the port to take their young men home. The German troops trapped BEF troops for weeks and decided that they would send in the Luftwaffe the finish them off but they failed as RAF planes protected the boats below them. About 22,000 allied troops died at Dunkirk and about 20,000 German soliders. The allies were lead by J.M.Charles. -
Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike by the Japanese Navy upon the United States against the American naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 7, 1941. It caused lots of damage and was one of the main causes of why America join the allied forces in WW2. The damage was not as bad as the Japanese thought though because only after a few weeks the US Navy was ready to fight. More than 2,400 Americans died that day at Pearl Harbor. -
Battle of Midway
The Battle of Midway was a major naval battle in the Pacific Theater of World War II that took place 4 to 7 June 1942, just about six months after the Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea. This was one of the biggest battles in the Pacific Theater and was a big win for the US. The Japanese lost over 3,000 men making it and American victory. The allies were lead by Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. -
Battle of Stalingrad
The Battle of Stalingrad was a battle on the Eastern Front where Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad in Southern Russia. The Nazis were pushed back by the cold and all of the snow. The Soviets then pushed the Germans back to Poland. There were about 1.2 million deaths from both sides. The Red Army was lead by Marshal Semyon Timoshenko. -
Battle of Moscow
The Battle of Moscow was a campaign that was fought for the capital of Russia. The Soviets fought tooth and nail for the city and eventually won by pushing the Nazis out. The Red Army lost about 1,300,000 men at the battle while the Nazis lost about 400,000. Field Marshal Fedor von Bock and his armored commanders, General Heinz Guderian lead the Nazis into Moscow. -
Battle of Kursk
The Battle of Kursk was a battle on the Eastern Front between the Nazis and the Soviets near Kursk in southwestern Russia during the summer of 1943. It became the largest tank battle in history and resulted in a Soviet victory. The Nazi soilders were defenseless and were forced to retreat. The power of the Soviet tanks were to much to bear. There were 800,000 Soviet death and 200,000 Nazi deaths. Erich von Manstein Günther lead the Nazis while Konstantin Rokossovsky lead the Red Army. -
The battle of Normandy
Operation Overlord was the codename for the Battle of Normandy, the Allied operation that launched the successful liberation of German-occupied Western Europe. The operation was launched on 6 June 1944 with the Normandy landings. The battle of Normandy is also refered to as D-Day. American, French, and British troops landed on Omaha beach as well as four other to start the liberation of France. There was more than 73,000 allied troops that died. The operation was oversaw by Dwight D. Esenhower. -
Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge was a major German offensive campaign on the Western Front which took place from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945. It was launched through the Ardennes region between Belgium and Luxembourg. The Germans tried to use the famous Blizkreik method were they would do quick attacks to wear the enemy down. This work for a bit but was soon countered by the Allied powers. The US army lost over 19,000 men in the fight. The battle was also over seen by Dwight D. Eisenhower. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima was a battle in which the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy landed on and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese Army during the island hopping campaigns lead by General MacArthur and Admiral Nimitz. The US lost about 22,000 men. -
Battle of Berlin
The Battle of Berlin also known as the Fall of Berlin, was one of the last major offensives of the European theatre. This battle finally saw the fall of Nazi Germnay and left Japan as the only Axis power left. Over 100,000 solider were dead after the fighting. The Nazis who were in charge at the time were Gotthard Heinrici and Helmuth Reymann.
