The Greek soldiers were hidden within the horse so when the Trojans believed they had left and brought the peace offering inside the city the soldiers attacked their unsuspecting enemy. -

The end result was that the Greeks had won the Trojan War, and by using the wooden horse they overthrew Troy securing them the victory.
