Introduction to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
-
How I spent time playing the NES, introduced to calculators, and early word processors and computers with floppy disks
-
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) was introduced in the US. The 16 bit system offered an expanded memory system in the cartridges to allow for players progress to be saved externally. Also offered was the player "passcode" system was offered which produced a series of characters to allow players to keep playing if the users left the game for any given reason.
-
I was discouraged to use tech such as calculators in grade school to help solve complex algebraic equations
-
The PC game DOOM was introduced by id software and was later integrated into the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), and later the Nintendo 64 (N64)
-
Our family obtained a Toshiba Pentium 2. I was introduced to Office, and Windows 98. Later, I was introduced to strategic based games like War Craft 2 and Star Craft. These games allowed for players to play online against other players via dial up to each others computers, or through a site called Battle.net
-
The world was convinced that the "millennium bug" would reset the world and destroy technological progress.
-
The world was introduced to MP3 players, streaming services, and the internet leaped from dial up services such as AOL and US West to cable internet which allowed for access speeds to greatly improve.
-
My first XBox was purchased when I was in Germany. I accidentally destroyed it because I did not have a power converter when I used it to play movies when my mother came to see me off before I deployed to Iraq in the winter of 2002/2003
-
I purchased my first PlayStation 2 in 2000
-
Time span of how tech was used in my time in the Army
-
I purchased my first PC in 2001 after graduating High School with all the congratulations money I was gifted. I then began college and explored more options with MP3's, PC games, and Office
-
I had to leave behind my life, my new PC and joined the US Army
-
I was sent to Germany after basic training. I was assigned to the 1st Armored Division.
-
While I was deployed in 2003 to 2004, I was able to buy my first laptop, a Sony Vaio. While we were deployed, we did have access to slow speed internet through the Iraqi's, which allowed for us to keep in touch with our families in Germany and in the US
-
I was deployed to Iraq for 15 months
-
I had returned to the US and while stationed in Louisiana, my parents came to visit. We spent some time in Lake Charles at a Harrah's Casino and I won $500. We then visited the PX and I bought my first 16 gig IPod.
-
I was redeployed back to Germany
-
I re-enlisted for another 4 year term and was sent to Fort Polk Louisiana, now renamed to Fort Johnson. I was stationed with 10th Mountain Infantry Division.
-
The XBox 360 was introduced, and Halo 2 was the game to be released with it. I purchased it and with it, for my first time, I had cable internet in the barracks while stationed in Louisiana
-
I was sent to Afghanistan for 4 months.
-
My first laptop had been so worn out that I had no choice but to purchase a new Toshiba laptop. It survived 2 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. I took it with me to my second deployment to Iraq in 2007
-
We were brought back to the US to start training to deploy to Iraq
-
We were sent to Iraq, and in the same sector I was first deployed to in Iraq.
-
Upon returning from Iraq in 2008, a colleague of mine custom built my 2nd PC. It included a TV tuner as well as a high end graphics card of the time.
-
We returned from Iraq.
-
When I Permanently Changed Stations (PCSed) from Fort Polk Louisiana to Fort Bliss Texas.
-
The decade when I really started to get back into tech and building my own PC's
-
I used my PC and Laptop to begin my pre college courses for educational credits for my Army career, and to begin obtaining my BA
-
I had been sent to Korea for a 1 year tour. I rebuilt my PC with newer tech. The town next to my base had a cheap PC parts store where I rebuilt my PC.
-
While in Korea, I had ordered the new Microsoft Surface
-
I was sent to Korea for a 1 year tour
-
I traded in my Surface and purchased a Surface Pro 4 to use for school
-
My last contract with the Army expired, and I took a 3 month Terminal leave to begin school.
-
I began school at Chandler Gilbert Community College. I used my Surface Pro 4 to take notes digitally, and study my career path in Mechanical Engineering and Physics.
-
I was accepted to ASU to continue my program.
-
After a year at ASU, I figured out that Calculus and I did not agree with each other. I switched my degree program from Physics and Mechanical Engineering to History and Anthropology.
-
I obtained a job through ASU with a 3rd party program called Veterans Curation Project where we digitized archaeological forms from the mid 20th century from the Army Corps. of Engineers.
-
I graduated with a dual BA from ASU.
-
Upon graduating, I obtained my first job and was introduced to ap's that tracked archaeological data and positions through an IPod
-
During the pandemic, I rebuilt my PC gearing it to a gaming PC. I realize that these builds are not just fantastic for gaming, but for other work for my career such as GIS and data collection
-
I was introduced to GIS and other digital collection ap's and worked in southern Arizona collecting environmental biological and archaeological data on a US Army Corps. of Engineers project.
-
I had to purchase a 2020 Ford Ranger for this job. In it came with a WIFI hotspot, Sirius XM, and the ability to send data to my company that had cell phone reception
-
While I worked in southern Az. I purchased a gaming laptop so that I had something to occupy my off time. I used it for offline gaming, and downloaded TV shows. I did not have access to a reliable source of internet 5 days out of the week when I was working in that area. I used my Surface on a weak source of internet to send in my daily reports to the organization I was working for.
-
I began my third job with the current company I am at currently and continued gaining experience in GIS with Ipad's and my Galaxy S22.
-
I began my GIS certification program through Mesa Community College, which I am continuing with this and one other course
