Timeline of Revenue Acts

  • The currency act

    This act Banned American colonies from having their own currency. They had to use the British government's money. This made many American colonists very angry.
  • The sugar act

    Enacted on April 5, 1764, the Sugar Act cut the duty on foreign molasses from 6 to 3 pence per gallon, put a large tax on foreign refined sugar, and banned all imports of foreign rum. The People started protesting no taxation without representation.
  • The Quartering Act

    Next the British put the quartering acts, Quartering Act, which required the colonies to provide barracks and supplies to British troops.
  • The Stamps Act

    The British Implied a tax on all newspapers, cards, dice, Legal documents, Pamphlets, and almanacs. They stamped everything that had been paid for and they went through people's houses to find things to tax on. This infuriated the colonists and the Sons of liberty emerged.
  • The Townshend act

    To help pay the expenses involved with the 7-year war Parliament added the Townshend Acts, which initiated taxes on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. The colonists organized boycotts against the British supplies
