    Due to her paternal grandfather, Albert Spencer, 7th Earl Spencer, passing away, her father gains the title of 8th Earl Spencer. Diana acquires the title of The Lady Diana Spencer. Her family then moved from Park House, her childhood home, to her family's ancestral home of Althorn.

    Diana's engagement to Prince Charles is announced at Buckingham Palace. She was selected as a potential bride by Camilla Parker Bowles, who would eventually become the Prince's second wife.
