Hanging "chads" in Flordia
2000 was the first year to have an electronic ballot. Many of the elderly people in Florida had a hard time figuring out hoe to use the new system. This resulted in miscounting within the state of Florida due to the hanging chads that remained on the ballot. -
Bush V. Gore
Due to the incident in Florida Al Gore went to court with George Bush demanding a recount. The supreme court ruled in favor of Gore and Florida started recounting the ballots by hand. Al Gore announced that he was no longer in the race, only to find out later that he would have won. -

George Bush was the 43rd president of the United States. The inauguration marked the commencement of the first four-year term of George W. Bush as President and Dick Cheney as Vice President. -

Timothy McVeigh was convicted in 1997 of 168 counts of first degree murder from the Oklahoma City Bombing. His execution was delayed nearly a month due to 3,000 found papers about the bombing that the government failed to give over to the defense lawyers. -

President Bush passed this act in response to the attacks of 9-11. The act was designed to interfere and obstruct terrorist acts. The law is intended to help government agencies detect and prevent possible acts of terrorism, or sponsorship of terrorist groups. -
Enron Scandal
This event involved the Enron company in Houston Texas. The CEO Skilling and founder Lay guilty of conspiracy and fraud. Lay is convicted of all six counts against him and Skilling is found guilty on 19 counts of conspiracy, fraud, false statements and insider trading. -
Shuttle Columbia Explosion
On Feb. 1, 2003, space shuttle Columbia broke up as it returned to Earth, killing the seven astronauts on board. This was the second space disaster after the challenger. The cause of the accident was a piece of foam that had fallen off the Shuttle's external fuel tank during launch. The foam struck the left wing of the shuttle, causing serious damage that ultimately led the vehicle to disintegrate when it reentered Earth's atmosphere. -
War in Iraq
In March 2003, U.S. forces invaded Iraq vowing to destroy Iraqi weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and end the dictatorial rule of Saddam Hussein. Iraqi forces were quickly overwhelmed as U.S. forces swept through the country. Started by Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein in September 1980, the war was marked by indiscriminate ballistic-missile attacks, extensive use of chemical weapons and attacks on third-country oil tankers in the Persian Gulf. -
Capture of Saddam Hussein
U.S. soldiers found Saddam Hussein hiding in a six-to-eight-foot deep hole, nine miles outside his hometown of Tikrit. The man once obsessed with hygiene was found to be unkempt, with a bushy beard and matted hair. He did not resist and was uninjured during the arrest. A soldier at the scene described him as “a man resigned to his fate.” -

Former President Ronald Reagan died on June 5 2004. Reagan suffered from Alzheimer's disease and it took his life at the age of 93. -
