Timeline of Influences for Independence

  • Boston Massacre

    The British were up against angry colonists because the colonists thought that the British were taking their jobs. The British were told not to fire their weapons, but after one of them got hit with a rock, they started to fire at the colonists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The British put taxes on tea and told the colonist that they had to buy tea from Britan. The colonist were not happy about this. The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians so that they could get on the boats and dump all of the tea into the harbor.

  • Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death Speech

    This speech was given by Patrick Henry in Virginia. Henry said in this speech that all men should be created equal and God would raise up their friends to go fight for their rights. This was his most famous speech in his lifetime.
  • American Revolution War

    The American Revolution War happened 16 months after the Boston Tea Party. This war was against the Thirteen Colonies and the Kingdom of Great Britan. This war ended on September 3, 1783.

    The Declaration of Independence is a very powerful document in our nation's history. The Declaration of Independence is the founding document of the American political tradition. The declaration was a statement against King George. It articulates the fundamental ideas that form the American nation such as all men are created equal and free, natural rights, and possess the same inherent.
