Dred Scott
Scott was a slave who famusolsy sued his owners for his freedom. His case made it all the way to the United States Supreme Court where the vote was 7-2 against Scott and this case came to be as Dred Scott v. Sanford and the decision was one leading contributor for the Civil War. -

John Brown
John Brown was an abolitionist who was affiliated with tons of action with Anti-Slavery groups. His most famous incident was of the raiding of Harper's Ferry in an attempt to dree slaves along the mountains and eventually lead to his execution. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, this book was a novel based off anti-slavery ideas. This novel was received positively by the North and negatively by the South. The book highetened more tensions between North and South and singled the start of the Civil War. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
This act was passed by Congress that allowed the people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to choose if they wanted slavery or not. This act reversed the effects of the Missouri Compromise. -

Brooks-Sumner Incident
This incident took place at the Senate floor at the U.S Capital as anti-slavery Charles Sumner took a beating by Preston Brooks with a cane after Sumer gave a speech on the situation in Kansas. Sumner recovered slowly and overtime served more terms on the Senate, while Brooks shorty died at the age of 37. -
LeCompton Constitution
This was a constitution made by Pro-Slave lobbyist as a state constitution that allowed slavery and prevent blacks from having rights. This was rejected by the people of Kansas and Congress and admission into the Union as a free state was accepted. -
House Divided Speech
This speech was given by Abraham Lincoln when he accepted Republican nomination for Illinois Senator. In this speech, Lincoln mentioned the decision in the Dred Scott case and how it further dived the United States and the further consequences of this. -

This was a series of debates between Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln and Democratic candidate Stephen A. Douglas, in hopes of winning the Illinois Senate seat. In a specific debate the Freeport Doctrine came to be with Stephen Douglas making that slavery cannot be upheld if there were no laws supporting it. -
Harper's Ferry
A man by the name of John Brown along with other men raided the fort at Harper's Ferry in a campaign to free slave along strongholds. The raid failed and John Brown was captured, questioned, and executed for his actions. -

This election was mainly decided by the factions within the two biggest political parties in the nation.THis election was mainly fought between Republican Abraham Lincoln and Democrat Stephen Douglas with the top issue being slavery. Republican Abraham Lincoln won the election and this was one of the main causes for the beginning of the Civil War. -
