The first air balloon
A scientist, launched the first hot air balloon called 'Aerostat Reveillon'. The passengers were a sheep, a duck and a rooster and the balloon stayed in the air for a grand total of 15 minutes before crashing back to the ground. -
The first manned flight
This is the birth of hot air ballooning!! Two french brothers, Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier, manned this balloon. Their flight lasted twenty minutes. That is five more minutes than the last flight! -
The first flight across the English Channel
Jean Pierre Blanchard, another french balloonist, and his American co-piolt, John Jefferies, became the first people to fly agross the English Channel. This same year Pilatre de Rozier, the first balloonist, died trying to do this same thing. The reason why he died is because he uesed a hydrogen balloon and hot air balloon tied together. It exploded thirty minutes into his flight. -
First flight in North America
Jean Pierre Blanchard was the first to fly in North America. George Washington was present to watch this historic event. -
To the Stratosphere!
Auguste Piccard, Swiss scientist, was the first to accomplish the first manned flight to the Stratosphere. He reached 52,498 feet, setting a new altitude record.
