    Janie started her Sophmore year of High School
    I had to guess on the year, and this is the year that the book was published, so I am going with 1990. The book does start in October.
  • Janie finds an image of herself on a milk carton.

    While Janie is haivng lunch at school that day with her friends. she is dying for a drink. Even though she is lactose intolerant, she takes and drinks her friend's milk carton. When she was done, she looked down at the picture of the missing child, and sees a little girl that looks exactly like her. Same hair, same face, and Janie remembers the dress in the picture- but she has no memory of being kidnapped. This starts the mystery of the whole novel.

    Reeve becomes an important part of Janie's life, and to the rest of the novel.

    Janie goes up to the attic to find a key that will unlock her birth certificate. While up there looking around, she finds a trunk with an "H" on it, belonging to someone named Hannah. This starts the chain of events where she first relizes there is a mystery about her life, and she confronts her parents about it. They tell her the truth about who Hannah is, and who Janie is.

    Janie and Reeve finally decide to look up the address of the missing girl on the milk carton, and check it out. They drive to New Jersey, where Janie sees two boys and a mother that look like her still living at the address. Janie is not brave enough at the time to confront them or even introduce herself. She and Reeve return home with no answers.

    Janie finds out who she truly is.
    Janie finally has enough information, with the help of Reeve and his sister, to share with her parents all she has discovered. When she tells her parents that she found out that Hannah kidnapped her from the woman in New Jersey, this sets up the end of the book. Janie's mom encourages her to call her "real" mom, and that's where the book ends.
