    Bartolomeu Dias;  Europe to Asia
    In order to establish a maritime passage from Europe to Asia, Bartolomeu Dias became the first European mariner to circle the southern tip of Africa.

    Cabot

    Cabot
    Cabot sailed from Bristol in 1497 and discovered Newfoundland and Cape Breton Island on the North American coast. He found a shorter route across the northern Atlantic Ocean, which would later facilitate the establishment of other British colonies in North America.

    Da Gama

    Vasco da Gama was the first European to open a sea-based trade route to India under commission of the Portuguese king and it would result in enabling the Portuguese to establish a long-lasting colonial empire along the way from Africa to Asia.

    Da Gama forces a treaty on the ruler of Calicut

    Da Gama's success in India enabled him to equip a new fleet, and in 1502 he forced the ruler of Calicut to sign a covenant of collaboration. Then, after leaving Portuguese traders in Calicut, he begins trading with spice traders.

    Verrazzano; the first European to explore the Atlantic coast of North America

    On behalf of France, Verrazzano explored the eastern coast of North America while looking for a western passage to China. His discoveries proved to the Europeans that the coast ran continuously from Florida to Cape Breton including New York Bay and Narragansett Bay
