  • 3000 BCE

    Obelisk

    How Early Egyptians told time by shadow. They used an Obelisk, a vertical structure with four sides, by placing in the shade it cast a shadow which showed the time.
  • 300 BCE

    Sundial

    The people of Bablonia started using a sundial, a flat surface with a 12 hour clock face.

  • o'clock

    The term o'clock started being used, meaning "of the clock"

  • Mechanical Clocks

    Mechanical clocks were introduces and knowing accurate time became possible and expected

  • A.M and P.M

    As more people wrote the time the devised A.M meaning ante meridiem for day and P.M post meridiem for night. Latin meaning before noon and afternoon.

  • 24 Hour Clock

    Many countries had started telling time using the 24 hour clock. The 24 hour clock originated with the Babylonians.
