    Many of the companies flourished and expanded their roles in many ways and the new companies where bringing a lot of competition to many markets.

    There had been major shifts during this period and companies were competing for fewer dollars.
  • Consolidation

    Mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, rollups, cooperative marketing agreements, and even franchise offerings changed the face of destination management.
  • Financial crisis

    When the world was at its worst.
  • Globalization on the rise

    The industry had become much more complex, with procurement, risk management and financial oversight driving much of the purchasing process.
