    On December 8, 2000, I was born in the hospital right up the street from my house. I was about eight pounds when I was first born. With a birthday in December, my Christmas presents are often combined with my birthday gifts.

    On January 20, 2001, George W. Bush was elected to be the 43rd president of the United States. In 2005, bush was sworn in for a second term. Before becoming president, Bush served as the governor of Texas for six years. This is a significant event because Bush was the first elected president after I was born.   • 9/11 Attacks

    9/11 Attacks
    On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and launched suicide attacks in the United States. Two planes attacked the World Trade Center while another attacked the pentagon. A fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Over 4000 people were killed during the attacks in New York and Washington DC, 400 of which were police officers or firemen. This is an event that will always be remembered.     George W. Bush signs USA Patriot Act
    On October 26, 2001, George W. Bush signed the USA Patriot Act into law. This was an anti-terrorism law drawn up in response to the attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.     On January 29, 2002, George Bush delivered the State of the Union Address. Bush claimed that Iran was a part of the "Axis of Evil" . Bush believed that the "Axis of Evil" (Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan) were constructing nuclear weapons. North Korea was also mentioned in Bush's speech, as he called North Korea "A regime arming with missiles and weapons of mass destruction, while starving its citizens."     On July 15, 2002, my younger sister, Alicia, was born. She is now fourteen years old and attends Abington Junior High School. Alicia is in ninth grade and will hopefully move on to the Senior High School next year. She is the middle child in the family as I am the oldest and my other sister, Olivia, is nine years old.

    On November 25, 2002, George W. Bush signed the Homeland Security Act into law. This established the Department of Homeland Security in the largest US government reorganization since the creation of the Department of Defense in 1947.     Creation of the 9/11 Commission
    On November 27, 2002, the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United State, also known as the 9/11 Commission, was created. The committee was to make sure that our country was prepared to respond immediately to terrorist attacks. The group also provides recommendations to guard against future attacks.     On March 19, 2003, the united States, along with several other countries, declared war on Iraq. President Bush's reason to begin this war was that Iraq, under dictator Saddam Hussein, could be constructing weapons of mass destruction.     I get a Dog
    On June 25, 2005, my family and I drove an hour away to pick up our new dog. He was a white boxer with a black spot over his eye. We named him Rocky after the famous boxer Rocky Balboa. This dog would go on to be the best dog a family could ask for. He slept in my bed every night, even though there wasn't enough room for the two of us. He was a great dog.

    Hurricane Katrina Strikes
    On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast of the United States. It brought winds of 100–140 miles per hour and stretched about 400 miles across. Many people felt that the federal government was slow to meet the needs of the people affected by the storm. Many people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama were displaced from their homes due to flooding. Experts believe the storm caused more than $100 billion in damage.     On June 29, 2007, my younger sister, Olivia, was born. She is currently in fourth grade and goes to school at Copper Beech. Olivia is the youngest in the family. She enjoys playing soccer and jumping on the trampoline.

    On May 17, 2008, my grandfather died in his bedroom. He had fought cancer for a couple years prior to his death and he was a very strong man. He was fifty three years old when he died and I was only seven. My family was devastated because this was not expected at all.

    On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama was elected as the forty fourth president of the United States. Obama defeated John McCain of Arizona to become the countries first African American president. Obama gathered fifty three percent of popular vote and 365 electoral votes.
  • Phillies win the World Series

    Phillies win the World Series
    On October 27, 2008, the Phillies defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 to win the World Series. The victory was exciting for obvious reasons however, it was especially exciting for me because I was actually at game five when they won the World Series. I remember this team having some of my favorite Phillies. Most of them, unfortunately, are now on the Los Angeles Dodgers. This day is one that I will always remember.

    Oil Spill in Gulf of Mexico
    On April 20, 2010, an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon Drilling rig killed 11 people and triggered the largest offshore oil spill in American history. By the time the well was capped, an estimated 206 million gallons of oil had poured into the Gulf.   • Osama bin Laden Dies

    Osama bin Laden Dies
    On May 2, 2011, Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, was killed by forces of the United States. The hunt for bin Laden lasted almost a decade. However, the particular raid that actually killed him lasted about 40 minutes. Five people, including bin Laden and one of his sons, were killed by U.S gunfire.     On April 15, 2013, two bombs went off near the finish line at the Boston Marathon. The explosion killed three people and left over 260 wounded.     On April 19, 2014, my family and I went down to Florida for the week. We stayed in a house that we used to own in Orlando and went to many different Disney Parks throughout the week. My favorite park was always Animal Kingdom. However, my favorite part about Florida is when I get to go fishing with my Dad.

    On August 5, 2014, my family along with two other families headed down to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We stayed for the week and rented a really nice house. The house needed to be big since their were three families staying in it for the week. We went to the beach everyday. My favorite part of the beach when I was younger was always riding the waves in to shore.

    On September 30, 2014, a patient at a hospital in Texas was diagnosed as the first person in the United States to have the Ebola virus. The man left Liberia on September 19th and made it home on September 20th. At the time, he did not show any symptoms. However, four or five days later, he began to exhibit them.     On November 9, 2014, my grandmother took me on a fishing trip on a charter boat. this was my first time on a boat in the ocean so I was a little nervous. Despite being nervous at first, it turned out to be a great day. We caught many fish and had a lot of fun.

    Same Sex Marriage Legal in all 50 States
    On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled that state wide bans of same sex marriage are unconstitutional. In the case Obergefell vs. Hodges, the ruling was that same-sex married couples were to be constitutionally accorded the same recognition as opposite-sex couples at state levels. The fourteen states that formerly had bans on same sex marriage could no longer enforce them. The ruling ends more than a decade of bitter legal battles.     Supreme Court Justice Dies
    On February 13, 2016, Antonin Scalia, Supreme Court Justice, died at the age of seventy nine. He was the Supreme Court Justice from 1986 until his death in 2016. The cause of death was not immediately released. However, they later announced that his death was caused by nothing more than natural causes.     My Dog Dies
    June 15, 2016, was a very hard day for me. The night before, my mom had told me that we would have to put my dog, Rocky, down because of an illness. This news came as a surprise because I was not expecting it to happen so soon. I had known that he was sick and his life was coming to an end, however, I felt it came too quickly.
