  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    First battle of the revolution. We lost at Concord and won at Lexington. The British started this by sending 700 troops to Concord. The reason was to destroy the weapons they had gathered. But Paul Revere rode out giving warning to the people. It was the start of the American revolutionary war. We pushed the British back to Boston showing we aren't going without a fight.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    The battle of Saratoga marked the climax in the Saratoga campaign during the war. The war was seen as a turning point. We managed to convince France to aid us in the war. France sent weapons advisers and a naval force to fight off Britain's. It was also an important victory. This is important because it was a key turning point in the war. Because we managed to gain the assistance of France against Britain during the war.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    A victory led by George Washington. The British surrendered giving the victory to George Washington and the french troops. They surrendered because they were surrounded and they kept attacking. This caused the British to lose the war. We gained independence from Britain. This was important because we won our independence from Britain here. It was the last victory we needed.
  • Northwest ordinance

    The Northwest ordinance had 3 to 5 states of the northwest have a chance to become full states. That is if 60,000 people lived there and created a constitution and petitioned for it. Each new state had it's own governor and council. Slave owners from the south mainly tried to populate these areas. Mainly hoping to make them Pro-slave states. This was important to us due to manifest destiny. It allowed us to slowly move our control of the U.S. to the west.
  • Alien and Sedition Acts

    The Alien and Sedition acts were a series of laws passed by Congress. Mainly due to spread fear that the war with France was inevitable. Alien enemies Act allowed the government to arrest all french people. The sedition Acts were arresting those who spoke out against the government. These were important due to the fact that they were the first couple of laws going against the constitution, In result they didn't last long at all.
  • Virginia and Kentucky resolutions

    The Virginia and Kentucky resolutions were passed by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. They explained that the constitution did not directly state they were allowed to do enact the Alien and Sedition Acts. First Madison wrote that they were not allowed to do this because it wasn't directly stated that they could. Then Jefferson added on to it supporting him. This was important due to the laws being removed. Then the government coming up the idea of the elastic clause.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana purchase was a land deal between President Jefferson and Napoleon. Jefferson offered $15,000,000 for the 13 states. Napoleon accepted the offer and gave us control other the 13 states. Afterwards we gained control over the land on both sides of the Mississippi river. And in doing so increased our trading capabilities. This was important to us for manifest destiny pushing us closer to the other side. It also increases our trading capabilities.
  • Marbury V Madison

    Marbury V Madison was a court case to settle the fact the Marbury should have been appointed as a federal judge but wasn't. After many days Marshall decided to use the constitution to come up with an idea to help him in this case. He created Judicial review out of this. Which allowed supreme court to decide whether or not the law constitutional or not in the case. This was important because it strengthened the central government. It also added to the checks and balances for the Judaical Branch.
  • Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise was a compromise to make Missouri a free state and Maine a slave state. This was to help keep the balance between the slave and free states. Because neither side wanted the other to have any advantages. During this the Senate decided to make the two of their separate bills into one bill. Making it easier for them to approve everything going on. This was important because it allowed us to establish two new states. It also kept the balance in the free and slave states.
