    To be a Greek citizen you had to be over 18, a male, had to own land,and both you and your parents had to be born there. Democracy then is alot now,they have freedom of speech and decisions were made by each Greek tribe.Greeks had the first democracy created by leader cleisthan to let the people rule.There were 3 branches, ekklesia:run by only people who were part of it, boule:a council of representatives run by all ten tribes,dikasteria: ruled by jurors selected to argue cases in popular courts

    Rome

    In 509 BCE Rome was made republic when the people went against the king and he was sent away. The rich upper-class the patricians had all the power and ruled over common people the plebes. The plebs rebelled for more rights and won and made it be a written law, plebes helped make a new democratic government called the senate. Only patricians could be senates but the people still had a say in the republic. To be a citizen of Rome you had to be male and you had to be free. Women were not citizens.

    the king was forced to sign the magna carta which ensured that the rights of citizens were safe. The king had certain rules like he could not steal would from other lands, he couldnt confinscate horses or carts, he couldnt force a widow to re-marry and he couldnt force villagers to build bridges over water. this was significant because the c]king could no longer do whatever he wanted and this is where birtish parliment started to develop.

    The American Revolution created the first true democracy that actually let Americans vote and the government’s powers were restricted so everything was balanced and if one branch did try to abuse its power the other two would over power it.

    Democracy was ingrained in France, the middle class overthrew their king and queen which were sent to the guillotine but in the end those who chose liberty were so called corrupted by to much power. The guillotine was used by leaders to get rid of opposition. When the power fell to dictator napoleon he tried to use his power to take over Europe.

    Communism started when Karl Marx wrote the communist manifesto specifying communism. In 1917 Vladimir Lenin over threw the Russian tzar, he followed maxes teaching but adapts communism to benefit his own purposes. The end result is through purges and starvation Stalin kills millions of Russians causing the world to start the cold war which lasted until the 90's.

    Formed a fascist government in Italy. He used cruel force and his black shirts to keep order. Aldof Hitler an ex-army corporal spoke up about not liking Jews and economically crippled Germany. He spoke about not liking communists and gave his word that he would reverse the treaty of Versailles. The end result was Hitler started WWII and killed millions of Jew and enemies of the state.

    The start of militarism began after a short period of democracy when japan switched to a nationalistic direction in the 1930's. Japan felt that’s the west was treating them unfairly and became a military and very aggressive state. Hirohito emperor of japan let his country and army to war and tried to dominate the pacific during WWII. The end result was the Japanese treating Koreans horribly and the rape of Nanking during WWII.

    The world realizing that if human rights were not protected tragedies would continue to happen and they don’t want a repeat of WWII so in 1948 the United Nations created the declaration of human rights that stated that people have a right to live and work without abuse from the governments. The end result is that people still disrespect these human rights to this day.
