Confiscation of Mendizabal
The disentailment of Mendizábal consisted of the expropriation of ecclesiastical lands (called "dead hands", due to their unproductivity) and their public auction. These lands had come to the Church through donations, inheritances and intestates. -

The main ideological difference between the progressive liberals and the conservative or moderate liberals was that the former defended the principle of national sovereignty, which implied that the New Regime would be the result of the nation's pact with the king. -
O'Donnell's Liberal Union is founded
The Liberal Union was a Spanish political party of the second half of the 19th century founded by Leopoldo O'Donnell in 1854. Union with the Moderate Party to form the Liberal-Conservative Party. -
Disentailment of Madoz
The Disentailment of Madoz was a disentailment agreed by Law that declared all rural properties, urban properties, censuses and forums belonging to the State, the clergy and any other property belonging to the dead.
