The coming of the great migration
African Americans that lived in the south wanted more opportunities. They began to migrate to the north. They wanted to flees the brutality in the south. They worked menial jobs, but they still escaped the brutality, were given a chance to vote and earned higher wages moving north. -
New Negro
Negro nationalism brought a sense of culture to the black community. With the encouragement of WEB Dubois, blacks were together and supporting each other. -
Being proud
Many African Americans started being inspiration. There were artists, who wrote poems and stories reinforcing black pride. Marcus Garvey promoted getting back to the roots with "back to Africa" movement.
