Pragmatic sanction approved by Fernando VII. It annulled the law (Salic Law),established since 1713, which said that women couldn’t accede to the throne.

It was caused by Isabel II’s birth and his coronation. Isabel’s aunt, Carlos María Isidro, till her birth was the crown’s principal successor; that reason made him reject the Pragmatic Sanction. So the popular division between those who were in favour of Carlos and those who were in favour of the Queen and her regent, led into this war.

Due to the regency conflicts, at the age of 13 Isabel was declared as legal aged to reign. In the picture, we can appreciate the Queen swearing the Constitution of 1837. -
