    Kuhn was born in Ohio to a Jewish family on July 18th, 1922. He graduated in Watertown Connecticut at the age of 18 in 1940. Kuhn earned his bachelor’s degree at Harvard University in 1943, then subsequently obtain his masters in 1946 than a PhD in physics in 1949.

    Professor Kuhn

    Kuhn entered a three year junior fellowship program at Harvard University while still working on his doctorate, where he spent a majority of his time on his ideas as a philosopher and science historian upon completion of his fellowship Harvard appointed Kuhn as a general course instructor, then was promptly promoted to assistant professor teaching undergraduate classes on the History of Science.

    Guggenheim Fellowship
    Thomas Kuhn was awarded with the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1954. This grant is given out by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to those "who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts." Multiple of these grants are given out every year to encourage creative freedom and help free those of their regular duties.

    The Structure of Scientific Revolutions
    Thomas Kuhn's "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" published in 1962 was were Kuhn coined the term Paradigm shift. Kuhn had an epiphany whilst delving into how Aristotle was so smart yet so completely wrong about motion. It finally made sense to him, Aristotle had a completely different basis of standard scientific knowledge during his time.

  • Honors

    Kuhn was awarded the George Sarton Medal in 1982, the GSM is given out by the History of Science Society and is considered their most prestigious award, given to historians of science who became acknowledged for "a lifetime of scholarly achievement".
    The "Thomas Kuhn Paradigm Shift Award" is awarded to speakers who give views against the recognized norm, with attention focused on the science of drugs.
