    In the summer of 1943, Kuhn served under the Radio Research Laboratory’s theoretical group. Located at Harvard, his group was responsible for devising countermeasures against enemy radar. He was soon sent to the United Kingdom to work in the laboratory. He later studied recently captured German radar systems, then carried on into Germany itself.

    Kuhn returned to Harvard and graduated with a master’s degree in Physics in 1946 and a doctorate in 1949. In 1947, Thomas lectured on the History of Science and a year later embarked on a 3-year program as a Junior Fellow in the Harvard Society of Fellows.
