First Barbary Pirates
North African states of Maroco, Algiers, Tunis, and Tripoli were part of the barbary pirates. When Jefferson took office in 1801 the Pasha of Tripoli demanded $225,000 to use the seas peacefully. Jefferson refused and the Pasha declared war on the U.S. The Pasha is sort of a British lord. -

Federalists vs. Jefferson
Federalists were against Jefferson and wanted to split the U.S. and call it the Northern and Southern Confederate. Thomas Jefferson feared that a concentration of central auuthority might lead to a loss of individual and states rights. They resented Federalist monetary policies, which they believed gave advantages to upper class. -
Lewis & Clark Expedition
The first day of the Lewus and Clark expedition. The ytook off on their journey very close to St. Louis. They were making their way westward toward the Pacific Ocean.
