He was born in Milan, Ohio.
He was the 17th child of Samuel and Nancy Edison -
Total patents
At the age of 21 Thomas Edison had his first patent. He had a total of 1093 patents in his lifetime. He is the holder of the most patents ever recieved. Edison got many patents from other countrys other than the United States. -
Electrographic Vote-Recorder
When he was 22 he had just recieved his forst patent fot the Electrographic vote-recorder. Edison was one of several inventors who were given the task to record the legislative decision in a timely manner. The legislators would flip the yes or no switch that would tellt he clerk. -
Pneumatic stencil pen
Edison made the original Pneumatic stencil pen. the pen that edison patented in 76 used a rod ipped with a steel needle to perforate paper for printing porposes.it is important because it is the only device that could effeciently copy papers -
His labratory
Thomas Edison built the worlds first industrial research labratory. It was know as the "wizard of Menlo Park". From this labratory he made himsel the most famous man in the world by the time he was in his 30's. -
Telephone Improvements
In 1877 thomas developed the carbon transmitter. This device improved the audibility of the telephone by making it a higher volume. -
The Phonograph
Thomas Edison created the first phonograph in Menlo Park.
This was his first invention.
He had buil it out of tin foil and when trying to improve his telegraph the foil made a noise and it intrigued him.
His first recording was MAry had a little lamb. -
Electric Generator
Thomas Edison designed a dynamo. This helped him decide that a generator with a small internal resistance would produce more power output. His generator also had large bipolar magnets. Edison helped Michael Faradays electromagnetic generation of current with a conductor, this moved through the lines with a magnetic field -

Thomas Edison magnetic Iron Ore separator
During the 1880's through the 1890's he had experimented with magnets to separate iron from unneeded ore. This invention was put our of buisness by an iron mine next to the Great lakes. Later they learned that this machine could gring up rocks and make a very useful product named concrete. -
The Werbermeter
In 1881 no one know how much power they were using so Thomas edison figured this porblem out by patenting the Werbermeter in 1881. The meter had 2-4 Electrolytic cells with zinc at both electrodes and a zinc dulfate solution. The zinc moved from one electrode to another at the rate of the electricity was used. -
Thomas Edisons Motion Picture
Thomas got started with motion pictures because he was inspired by Muybridge's analysis of motion.
His first device looked like a phonograph with a spiral arrangement.

it was nicknames the Black Maria. -
Alkaline storge battery
The alkaline batter originally worked on as a powersource for the phonograph. eventually he used this new technology to power submarines and vehicles. In 1912 Henery Ford asked him to make a batery for a self start motor that would later be put on the model T. -
Spirit Phone
In October of 1920 Edison said that he would release a phone that was able to reach the spirit world. In this time it was after WW1. Many people hoped that with this phone that they could reach their dearly departed. -
Death
He died of Diabete Mellitus
He was 84 years old.
